Why Stephen Colbert?

The purpose of this blog is to lobby for the appointment of Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report to the position of chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 2011, or at the time at which the current chairman Kevin Martin steps down.

Stephen Colbert attended Northwestern University where he studied dramatic acting and was likely exposed to relevant information about mass communications policy. He has had considerable experience in broadcast television since his debut in 1995 with the sketch comedy show Exit 57, unlike Kevin Martin who has had little, if any, on-air experience.
And really, what can one learn at Duke or at Harvard Law that can't be learned through first-hand media experience? All that education in public policy is nothing but book smarts, which as of yet have done squat for the development of spectrum, telecom, and broadcast standards in the United States.
It's time for a change, America! It's time for Stephen Colbert to bring his street smarts to the FCC.

This blog was created in response to this Colbert Report episode that aired on September 4th, 2008:

I plan to post updates as I think of more reasons why Stephen Colbert should be in charge of the FCC.
